Character
Name: Stiles Stilinski
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Time Period: Post season 2
Wing Color: Red with dark gray tips.
History: Here.
Personality: At first glance, Stiles comes off as nothing more than your average teenage boy with a smart mouth that never stops moving, a surprising intellect, and a very strong case of ADHD. And while all of these things are true, they’re merely to first, visible layer to a boy that has so many layers he’s constantly dressed in three or four of them.
The first of these layers is his sparkling wit and sarcasm. It’s his first, and often times his only defense against the crazy things that go on around him and the world at large. He’s a regular human surrounded at all sides by people who are stronger, faster, more violent and less human than he is. So he compensates the only way he knows how; through the use of sarcasm and self-deprecating humor. And sometimes-just sometimes- it’s enough to throw their enemies off, or at least make them think that Stiles is harmless and therefore not a threat. But mostly…it just gets him hit, or thrown violently into things. But aside from that, Stiles also uses his humor as a way to disguise what’s really going on with him. He isn’t the kind of guy that opens up about his problems, and part of that is probably because he’s too busy dealing with his best friend Scott’s problems, or looking after his dad’s health, or trying to comfort his crush Lydia and make sure she’s safe. He throws himself into other people’s problems instead of caring about his own because they mean more to him than he means to himself. So it makes it difficult sometimes for people to know what’s he’s thinking because he either laughs their concern off or finds a way to direct the conversation away from him and onto others.
Now, it would be impossible to talk about Stiles without talking about his mom. The only thing we know about her is that she died at some point years before the series began and that she left a giant hole in the Stilinski household. But more importantly, she left a huge wound on Stiles. Since his mother’s death, Stiles has formed a small group of people in his life that he would do anything for. Those people being his dad, Scott, and Lydia. He’s loyal only to them and he’s fierce in protecting them. But he only feels this way about them. He’s so protective of them that he’d risk his own life-and if the need calls for it other people’s lives-just to keep one of them safe. That’s not to say that Stiles doesn’t care about people in general, just that he doesn’t care as much about them as he does the special three people in his life. And how this connects back to his mom is because after she died he had to live with the knowledge that people can go away and never come back, and he’s so afraid of losing someone else that he keeps the amount of people he really cares for small and imposes himself into their lives to make sure nothing will happen to them that will take them away from him.
That being said, Stiles does actually care about people and can act quite selflessly if it means saving a life. The best example of this is the handful of times he’s helped saved Derek Hale’s life despite the fact that neither of them likes each other very much. Sure he’ll bitch and moan while doing it, but the point is he still does it. Just don’t expect any selfless acts like to happen if you’re drowning at the same time his dad, or Scott, or Lydia is being attacked or threatened in anyways, because then you’ll be on your own. And he doesn’t do that to be callous, but simply because he can’t trust that people won’t one day eventually leave and hurt him even more. His dad and Scott are safe choices because he knows he’ll always have them and then there’s Lydia who he never really had a chance with anyways. He cares about them above all else because they matter to him but also because they’re the safest options.
So what my last paragraph is hinting at is the fact that Stiles doesn’t trust easy. In fact, I think his trust issues are about equal to those of Derek’s, who has legendary trust issues for some very good reasons. He trusts his dad, Scott and even sort of Lydia, but no one else because, again, opening yourself up to more people just leaves a greater chance of them leaving you behind. So while Stiles is a pretty over-all friendly guy, he holds a lot of stuff back and isn’t really in the market for some new friends.
Now, flipping that around a moment, Stiles trusts his core three people, but they…can’t always trust him. Because in his ever struggling effort to protect those he loves, he’s not above lying to, manipulating or withholding information from said loved ones if he believes he has good cause. Case in point, his dad is the Sheriff of Beacon Hills and yet he knows nothing about their little werewolf problem. Why? Because Stiles wants to keep his father away from the problem as possible, which…really isn’t too far since it’s his dad that gets to deal with all the dead bodies that keep popping up. In season one; he went as far as refusing to call his dad to the school where he and his friends were locked in with a killer Alpha because he didn’t want his dad getting hurt. And did I mention Scott and Lydia where also there and in as much danger as he was? Yeah, so even that small group is prioritized one through three with his dad being at the top of the “keep safe” list.
Stiles also happens to be quite the genius, or at the very least a master in google-fu with a lot of time on his hands. What makes him such a vital asset in the show is the fact that he’s quick thinking and always researching things. He craves knowledge and it’s become even more important to him since the series started because it makes him feel needed and important. He might not be able to sprouts claw out of his hands or move exceptionally fast, but he sure as hell can spend all night researching lycanthropy to help his best friend through his first full moon. He’s the brains to Scott’s brawns and honestly, Scott would be totally lost without him. But he also has ADHD which causes his focus to bounce around and he has a prescription for Adderall which sometimes makes him hyper.
One change, or discovery, that Stiles made in season two is that he’s starting to realize exactly how dangerous things can be and how powerless he is to stop it. In episode 2x10 Stiles was poisoned with the Kanima’s venom that paralyzes the victim’s body and he had to watch while the Kanima’s master, Matt, knocked his dad unconscious. That was a turning point for Stiles because, one, despite everything he does to protect the people he loves, he has no defense against the supernatural elements in his life, and two, because he’s put in a position where he’s useless and can’t help his dad or protect him from the things lurking around Beacon Hills. And in the last two episodes of the season he has to take a step back and figure out whether there’s a point to keep fighting or not. In the end he chooses to help out his friends, there will always be that thing lurking in the back of his mind wondering whether he should walk away.
Strengths:
Physical: He’s your average human teen with no special physical strengths at all unless you count the speed at which his mouth can run. Oh and it turns out he’s a fairly decent lacrosse player too since he managed to score two or three goals in the first lacrosse game he was ever let off the bench to participate in. Everyone was surprised, including him.
Mental: He’s extremely intelligent and quick thinking. As soon as Scott tells him about when he got bit in the woods, Stiles immediately starts researching lycanthropy like it’s no big deal and is clearly a plausible explanation. He also manages to get straight As in all of his classes despite spending most of his free time helping Scott with his werewolf issues. He’s incredibly loyal to the people he cares about, especially Scott who tries to kill him once during his first full moon, but that didn’t stop Stiles from continuing to help him. He’s selfless to the point of not caring all that much about himself, like when he’s prepared to risk his own life and the lives of his friends because he doesn’t want to call his dad and bring him into danger.
Emotional: He’s fairly level-headed in times of crisis and uses his sarcasm as a defense or sometimes as a way to defuse mounting tension. He has enough control over his emotions to keep up a poker face during the situation with Matt, who taunts him by asking what he turns into.
Weaknesses:
Physical: All the usually human weaknesses. He’s also not a fighter by any means, not even when it comes to self-defense. He fights with his words but that usually just gets him slammed into things. He bruises fairly easy.
Mental: He has ADHA is can cause his mind to bounce from one topic to the next really quickly. Sometimes it’s hard to follow his thought patterns. He mostly controls this by taking Adderall, but the side effects can leave him feeling a bit hyper sometimes, especially if he takes a slightly higher dose than prescribed.
Emotional: While he does have a good handle on his emotions, which is good for serious situations, he’s also the master of hiding those feelings not only through a poker face, but through humor and changing the topic of discussion off himself. Pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth is said to distract people from what he’s really feeling or thinking and I list it as a weakness because it’s not a very healthy way to deal with one’s emotions and it makes it easier for him to lie and deceive people.

First Person: Okay, who do I have to pay to get these wings removed? I mean they’re itchy and uncomfortable and totally useless. [He knows because one of the first things he did after freaking out about them is try to fly.] Who the hell gives a person wings that they can’t fly with? Doesn’t that diminish the purpose of having wings? If you wanted to keep us grounded, you should have attached shells to our backs; that way at least we have shelter from the rain and a nice and cozy self-sustaining home to live in. [And this rant goes on for another couple of minutes. It’s clear this kid is way more upset about his lack of functional wings than waking up in a damp, deserted forest with only a journal to clue him in. A journal that he’s already read cover to cover twice and thus understands the gist of this place.]
So yeah, just a future suggestion, but if you’re going to surgically attach new appendages to my body without my consent, is it too much to ask that they work properly? [Because Stiles doesn’t think it is.]
And as for everyone else listening in, hi, I’m Stiles Stilinski and this is my first alter-universe kidnapping. Although a very large part of me is still assuming this just a cracked out dream I’ll wake up from at any minute. So, anyone have a map that’ll get me out of this forest?
Third Person: Stiles had been in the library all day looking through countless books, memorizing information about the world he’d been brought to. Of course in between his Luceti research he’d dabble in some books he recognized from home or books he recognized as being fictional in his own world. And really, it was a lot to get his head around that some of the biggest pop culture figures in his world are actual people from another universe that are actually here, with him, in Luceti. It’s like he woke up a week ago at a super geek convention except instead of guys in costume he got the meet the real deals.
Scott will just die with jealousy when he gets home and his dad will probably try to have him committed when he tells him where he’s been and…that was usually where that thought process ended before he pushed it away. Otherwise he’d have to face the fact that unless something incredible happens or the Malnosso decide to let them go, there’s a good chance he’ll never go home again. Never see his dad again, or Scott, or…Lydia. And then he’d had to recognize the fact that he’s all alone here. At least until the Mallies decide to bring someone else from his world to Luceti, but Stiles doesn’t have it in him to want that. At least if he’s here alone he knows Scott and his dad will look after each other and Jackson will look after Lydia. And, that’s all he really needed to know.
He walked into his apartment, hitting the switch with his elbow, and dumps the books he brought back with him onto the kitchen table. Studying all day was not conductive to eating so he quickly made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, dinner of champions, before sitting at the table to continue his research. This place really didn’t seem all that different from home when he did this. He could lose himself in the pages and pretend his dad is out on call and Scott is off on some date with Allison…except maybe not since they broke up. But still, when he did this he didn’t feel so far away from them.
